Symphony of the Kootenays cancels weekend concert

Due to the weather and treacherous road conditions, Symphony cancels Feb. 11 concert for first time in its history

Due to the weather and treacherous road conditions, the Symphony of the Kootenays has made the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming concert (Return to) A Night at the Movies, scheduled for 7:30pm on this Saturday Feb.11, at Cranbrook's Key City Theatre.

The Symphony announced its decision through a press release issued by Board President Ian Adams.

"This decision is based on current and anticipated weather/road conditions that make it unsafe for our musicians to travel to Cranbrook on Friday Feb 10 in order to prepare for the concert. Symphony musicians travel to Cranbrook on Fridays before performances and rehearse several times in advance of a typical Saturday evening performance. Without this preparation time, we cannot offer the professional, entertaining performance our audiences have come to love and expect.

"We believe this is the first time in its 40 plus year history that the Symphony has been forced to cancel a concert due to weather issues.

"We regret this decision, but have made it with full consideration of our musicians' safety, as well as uncertain conditions for our patrons to safely attend the concert on Saturday evening."

Full reimbursement will be offered to all ticket holders. For more information please contact the Symphony at 250-489-4932, email info@sotk.ca Further details will available at www.sotk.ca as necessary.
