After ramming two police cars and injuring two RCMP members near Premier Lake, a man and a woman were arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday in Cranbrook.

Police were notified of a dangerous driving incident that afternoon where a stolen black Ford pickup had attempted to run over a civilian near Skookumchuk.

The truck was last seen heading southbound on Highway 95 until a second report pinpointed the vehicle near Fort Steele. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle and the two occupants, however, they rammed one of the police vehicles and fled northbound on the highway.

RCMP members from Cranbrook, Kimberley and the Columbia Valley, along with the assistance of Police Dog Services, patrolled the area and located the stolen truck and two occupants on Sheep Creek Rd near Premier Lake.

The suspect rammed another RCMP vehicle before he was subdued and taken into custody.

Both officers involved in the collisions were taken to East Kootenay Regional Hospital for treatment and released later that evening.

The driver, who is from Alberta, and the female passenger, from Invermere, were arrested for assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving and possession of property obtained by crime. They are associated with a string of similar incidents out of Alberta, according to police.

Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to call Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
