On Wednesday, Sept. 11, a male trying to elude police jumped into the Kootenay River near Wardner, he was arrested Friday Sept. 13 near Canal Flats, B.C..
The Cranbrook/Kimberley Drug Task force had located two subjects with a large amount of cocaine on September 11 — one male was arrested and taken into custody. The second jumped into the river.
Significant resources were activated in an attempt to locate the male. In addition to the river search police conducted patrols and surveillance at several locations in Cranbrook. On the evening of Sept. 12, the subject's truck had moved. Police located the truck at another location and continued surveillance for most of the night before they had to break off.
On the morning of Sept. 13, the truck had moved again but police located it on highway 93/95 near Canal Flats. The vehicle was stopped and the subject taken into custody without incident. He is currently in custody charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He is scheduled to appear in Cranbook Court, Monday, Sept. 16.
During the river search police were able to retrieve a large amount of cocaine that police believed was in the subject's possession when he fled.
