Semis lose control in slushy conditions near Yahk

At 9 a.m. Saturday, Cranbrook Search and Rescue, RCMP and BC Ambulance Service responded to a two vehicle accident south of Cranbrook.

At approximately 9 a.m. Saturday, Cranbrook Search and Rescue, RCMP and BC Ambulance Service responded to a two vehicle accident south of Cranbrook. The two tractor trailers lost control and skidded off highway 3/95 near the Irishman Creek turn, located between Moyie and Yahk. According to Constable Bruce Mihalcheon of the Creston detachment, the driver of one of the semis carrying produce sustained shoulder injuries and was brought to East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook. The second driver was uninjured. The accident was caused by freezing rain and slushy road conditions. Constable Mihalcheon said road conditions at this time of year consist of freezing rain and slushy roads and motorists need to take precautions, use judgment and drive according to the conditions of the road when traveling.
