Black Press and Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy came together on Friday, October 25, to thank volunteers who helped raise money for literacy in the Reach A Reader Campaign.

Held on October 10, the campaign saw communities throughout the Kootenays raise funds to increase literacy.

In Cranbrook, $1,538.42 was raised, through the volunteer time of realtor Jason Wheeldon, councillors Diana J. Scott, Sharon Cross and Gerry Warner, Kootenay Ice players and CBAL volunteers.

Wheeldon raised the lion's share of funds in Cranbrook – $1,073 – by donning his 1980s newsboy garb to hand-deliver papers for a donation. He was the single biggest fundraiser in the Kootenays.
