Evacuation orders and alerts have been rescinded by the RDEK around the Island Pond wildfire, as it is now classified as 'being held' and not expected to grow beyond pre-determined boundaries.

The Island Pond wildfire began on July 20 and grew to approximately 37 hectares, eventually prompting evacuation orders for two properties and an evacuation alert  for 67 properties.

According to an BC Wildfire Service update posted on July 23, no significant fire growth has been recorded since firefighters conducted significant suppression activities.

Response activities included running hoselay around the perimeter while crews are working to complete a wetline.  Machine guard around the perimeter is complete, and crews continue to work on direct attack strategies.

The fire was actioned by air tankers, while two unit crews (20 firefighters each) and two initial attack crews (five each) were assigned to the blaze.
