A man has been arrested in a rural area following a violent assault and vehicle theft early Thursday, March 20th.

Police responded to a report of a violent assault at a car dealership in the 900 block of Victoria Ave North just after 8 a.m. on March 20th.

The suspect then allegedly stole a nearby white Toyota Highlander with Oregon plates.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., that vehicle was abandoned near the intersection of 3rd Street South and 6th Avenue South.

The Cranbrook RCMP request residents in the area of the abandoned stolen vehicle check on their respective properties.

The suspect was later taken into custody without incident later that afternoon.

The Cranbrook RCMP further request residents review personal security video for the period between 8:2 0.a.m and 9:30 a.m. and contact police should the suspect be observed on a recording.

Anyone with information on this is urged to contact their local police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or the Cranbrook RCMP 250-489-3471
