One dead in Dry Gulch car accident

A woman from Ontario lost her life in a two-vehicle collision Sunday, August 14, on Highway 93/95 at the turn off to the Dry Gulch Provincial Park campground.

According to Cpl. Grant Simpson with the Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment, the accident took place at roughly 11:40 a.m. and involved two vehicles, one with three passengers and six in the other – all individuals are a mix of visitors from Ontario and Alberta.

The Ontario woman who lost her life was in her late 50s. STARS has been making multiple air transports bringing other passengers to both the Calgary and Kelowna hospitals. Cpl. Simpson said none of the injuries of the other passengers are life threatening.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, said Cpl. Simpson, which is being handled by Southeast Traffic Services.

At 4:34 p.m., Drive BC reported that Highway 93/95 between Radium and Invermere had been re-opened to two-way traffic.
