One day in and there is still no sign of a man believed to have crashed into the Bull River east of Cranbrook on Tuesday night.
Cpl. Pat Prefontaine of Cranbrook RCMP said that Wednesday saw a concentration of search and rescue (SAR) on the spot just above the Aberfeldie Dam.
"Significant resources were put into play yesterday including numerous SAR teams from all over the East Kootenay and some from the West Kootenay. Speciality teams included swift water rescue, rope rescue and ground search and rescue. Two SAR helicopters were on scene yesterday as was our police dog," said Cpl. Prefontaine.
"The vehicle has not been located and neither has the driver. Some articles from the vehicle have been recovered downstream."
On Thursday, Cpl. Prefontaine said there would be fewer search and rescue personnel on scene, because the river is very fast, turbulent and dangerous, making the search difficult.
"There isn't much that can be done other than watching the river for receding water and reduced turbidity," he said.
Police received a call at about 10 p.m. On Tuesday, June 25 that a vehicle with a 20-year-old driver had crashed into the Bull River, about 25 kilometres up the Bull River Forest Service Road from Fort Steele Wardner Road, between the first and second bridges.
RCMP are not currently releasing the identity of the missing driver, but family and friends were at the scene Wednesday assisting with the search.
