For the Townsman

Jennifer Roberts was recently appointed vice-principal of TM Roberts Elementary School as of the 2014/15 school year by the School District 5 (SD5) Board of Education.

Born in Edmonton, Roberts received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta.

Currently the principal of the Kimberley Independent School, Roberts has 21 years teaching experience, 18 of which were in public education, including School District 6 and the College of the Rockies. Her areas of expertise encompass English second language (ESL), special education, alternate education and drama.

Roberts is also Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certified and is a certified personal trainer with experience developing fitness and nutrition programs for school students and drama instruction for numerous theatrical school performances.

SD5 Board Chair, Frank Lento, said Roberts' diverse educational experience is vital for a school like TM Roberts.

"She has the skills necessary to support the unique and varied educational needs of a dual-track, English and French immersion school", Lento said, "while her training and background as a personal trainer and drama instructor are an added bonus that will enhance the educational experiences of the students."

"I look forward to getting involved with the TM Roberts School community," says Roberts. "I enjoy working collaboratively with others and am excited to be working with such a talented –and varied—group of teachers, students and parents."
