New TM Roberts principal named

Brenda Tyson appointed principal of TM Roberts Elementary School as of the 2013/14 school year.

Brenda Tyson was recently appointed principal of TM Roberts Elementary School as of the 2013/14 school year by the School District 5 (SD5) Board of Education.

Born in Cranbrook, Tyson received her Bachelor of Education in Lethbridge, Alberta. Returning to teach in B.C. in 1996, Tyson joined SD5 in 1999. She has served as vice-principal at both Mount Baker Secondary and most recently at Parkland Middle School.

“I’ve enjoyed working with middle and secondary students, staff and parents as well as our numerous community partners. I look forward to working at the elementary level using the same collaborative vision and a focus on 21st century learning.”

SD5 Board Chair Frank Lento says Tyson is a strong leader, especially when it comes to professional development. “Brenda is very involved in teacher professional development. She’s always current on instructional practices, curriculum and support trends – and she shares her knowledge openly with others.”

Tyson is a former Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kootenay member with involvement in both the Santa Claus parade and Sam Steele ball tournament.
