New IH outpatient lab opening soon

Tamarack Medical Lab to open on Sept. 28, services at the Associate Medical Clinic and the hospital to close.

In a few weeks, outpatient lab services will be offered at the Tamarack Medical Lab in the back end of the Tamarack Mall.

The lab, which officially opens on Sept. 28, will offer full blood collection as well as ECG services. The new location provides a larger space for patients and staff, is wheelchair accessible, has ample free parking, and is on a public transit route.

Blood collection services, currently available at the Associate Medical Clinic, will end at noon on September 24 and at East Kootenay Regional Hospital at noon on September 25. Outpatient blood collection will no longer be provided at these locations after these dates.

East Kootenay Regional Hospital will continue to provide emergency and inpatient lab services. Tamarack Medical Lab hours of operation starting September 28 are:

• 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

• Closed Saturday/Sunday/Statutory holidays.

The new lab was announced in March, as Interior Health signed a lease agreement for the space and required roughly three months for renovations.

Just over a year ago, Interior Health announced the closure of a lab in the F.W. Green Clinic, as the clinic recently moved to a new location in the Baker Street Mall.
