Man charged after roadblock arrests

A 44-year-old man has been charged with cocaine trafficking after police nabbed him with drugs during a targeted road check Jan. 15.

A 44-year-old man has been charged with cocaine trafficking after police nabbed him with drugs during a targeted road check on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The man was among three arrested after the vehicle they were in was found to contain crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.

He was remanded in custody during a Jan. 16 bail hearing before a Judicial Justice of the Peace and was scheduled to appear again Monday, Jan. 20.

Police have released the man’s companions, a 23-year-old female and a 26-year-old male – but police are recommending charges for possession of crystal meth.

The arrests were made after police received a tip to be on the lookout for people involved in drug trafficking at that time. A roadblock was set up on the strip and for five hours police waited for the suspect vehicle to approach.

“The RCMP members in both Kimberley and Cranbrook actively seek information about those involved in drug trafficking and act on it once they gain sufficient evidence,” said Cpl. Chris Newel. “These arrests are a testament to the lengths officers will go to in order to apprehend and charge those involved in the drug trade.”
