The local chapter of MADD will be kicking off an awareness campaign next week to combat impaired driving during the holiday season.
MADD Kimberley-Cranbrook is kicking off the Project Red Ribbon campaign with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Cranbrook city hall on Monday, Nov. 3rd, at 10 a.m.
The initiative is Canada's largest and longest-running public awareness campaign. The red ribbon symbolizes a person's commitment to drive safe and sober during the holiday season and throughout the year, and also serves as a reminder to other motorists to drive sober.
The campaign runs from now until the first Monday after the New Year.
Every day, on average, four Canadians are killed and 207 more are injured due to alcohol and drug-related crashes. MADD Canada works to change these umbers each and every day.
Together, with businesses in Cranbrook and Kimberley, the local MADD chapter is asking residents of Cranbrook to tie a MADD Canada red ribbon to their antenna, side mirror, or other visible location on their vehicle or car keychain.
Ribbons can be picked up at city hall and Bridge Interiors.
