A local organization dedicated to paying things forward and celebrating good deeds is taking donations and supplies to send up to northern Alberta in relief of the wildfire devastation at Fort McMurray.
Aileen Wilson and a Facebook group, 'Project Fort Mac - Paying it Forward,' are coordinating an effort to collect donated goods at a business in Cranbrook, which have been, and will be, trucked up to places in need in northern Alberta.
Wilson says there are still need for all kinds of items ranging from toiletries—toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorants, razors—to blankets, suitcases and duffel bags, clothing, diapers and more. Gift cards and prepaid visas are also being accepted—all of which can be dropped off at FibreNew at 8-17 Industrial Rd 2.
There is a 20-foot enclosed trailer that is being used to haul up the donations and supplies. One truckload left late last week, while another one is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, and Saturday, May 14.
Wilson is using social media to coordinate her efforts, as one truckload went up to Boyle and Edmonton, while others are planned for Conklin and areas that need it as identified through social media.
