Cranbrook might be coming off its biggest celebration weekend in years, but when it comes to crime, Sam Steele Days was relatively quiet, according to local RCMP.
Cst. Katie Forgeron said the RCMP responded to 111 calls for service between Friday, June 20 and Sunday, June 22.
“It was a relatively mild weekend,” she said. “We didn’t have anything crazy happen. It was relatively minor calls that we did go to.”
Most of those calls were incidents such as loud party complaints, and people drinking open liquor in public places.
“We had no fights, we had no assaults,” said Cst. Forgeron.
RCMP took 13 impaired drivers off the road. One was charged criminally, the rest were issued Immediate Roadside Prohibitions.
Most people made the wise decision to walk to and from celebrations if they were drinking, Cst. Forgeron continued.
“We were extremely pleased with the amount of people who were on foot, who decided to walk.”
RCMP had six general duty officers on duty, five traffic officers, and one auxiliary constable.
