Legion donates $30,000 to local causes

Cranbrook Legion donated $30,000 to local groups and organizations in 2024, according to the yearly Community Donations Report.

Salvation Army, Cranbrook and Kimberley Food Banks, Egress Veteran Society, Boys and Girls Club of Cranbrook, Cranbrook Women's Resource Centre, Operation Street Angel, Friends of Children and Therapeutic Paws were among the numerous charities the Legion supported.

It also raised funds for air and army cadets, Angel Flight East Kootenay, and East Kootenay Foundation for Health for upgrades to its palliative care unit. Five $500 scholarships were awarded to students at Mt. Baker High School.

Money raised through BCLC Gaming events donated, the weekly meat draw, 50/50, Texas hold' em allowed the branch to donate $23,000 last year to charitable organizations in the community. The annually Poppy Campaign leading up to Remembrance Day helped support veterans and their families.
