‘I’ll bring it back when I’m done’

Cranbrook RCMP are currently searching for a man who stole his neighbour's license plate, and put it on the car he had stolen earlier in the night.

The Honda Civic was taken Monday morning, after RCMP responded to a call from someone who reported that a neighbour was in the process of stealing the license plate off of his personal vehicle and placing it on an older Honda Civic.

"I'll bring it back when I'm done," said the man, when confronted. He then left the area in the car.

The 2006 grey Honda Civic with BC license plate 942 FWV, was stolen from a residence in the 500 Block of 12th Ave South. As of press time, the car was still gone.

Police are saying if anyone spots the vehicle, contact the nearest RCMP Detachment and do not attempt to stop it.

Police were able to locate the suspect and followed him for a short period of time, attempting to stop the vehicle before letting it leave the area.

"Due to the time of day and the amount of pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the road, it was not prudent to continue attempting to stop the vehicle," said Cst. Katie Forgeron. "Cranbrook RCMP are aware of this person's identity and will locate him."
