IH reporting illness outbreak at Green Home

Gastrointestinal illness reported at Dr. FW Green Home; outbreak status will be lifted after 96 hours from last reported case.

Interior Health is reporting an active facility outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness at the Dr. FW Green Home in Cranbrook.

The illness was first reported on Dec. 29 and won't be lifted until 96 hours have passed since the last reported case.

A gastrointestinal illness is generally caused by viruses and bacteria and occasionally from toxins created by bacteria.

According to the IHA, there may be some precautions taken by staff at the facility. Signs will be posted at the entrance of the building identifying an outbreak, while gowns, gloves and masks may be worn by staff.

Depending on their health, patients may be encourage to stay in their rooms and may need to reschedule non-urgent medical appointments, while activities and outings may be cancelled.
