Human remains found in Nelson, linked to Cranbrook man

Nelson RCMP say remains have been in the park for several years

Police are not releasing a name, but are saying that remains found Wednesday in a Nelson park may be those of a 27-year-old Cranbrook man.

Nelson RCMP recovered human remains in a forested area in the city.

On July 23, the RCMP were advised of the remains in the area between Bealby Point Road and the Rails to Trails near Red Sands Beach on the edge of Nelson.

At around 5 p.m. that day, the police and the BC Coroners Service, with the assistance of Nelson Search and Rescue, were able to retrieve the remains.

There was identification located with the remains, suggesting they may be  those of a 27-year-old male from the Cranbrook area.

It is believed that the body has been there for several years.

The name is not being released until identification can be confirmed and next of kin can be notified.

Foul play is not suspected.

The BC Coroners Service, with the assistance of the Nelson RCMP, is continuing its investigation.
