Hazy days of summer

Local smoke is mainly the result of a 180 hectare fire in the St. Mary Alpine Park area.

CAROLYN GRANT

There was a definite hint of smoke in the air this weekend in the  Kimberley/Cranbrook area, along with an orange tint to the sun in the smoky sky.

The smoke is mainly the result of a 180 hectare fire in the St. Mary Alpine Park area, about 40 kilometres northwest of Kimberley.

The good news is the fire is not threatening any communities or structures as it burns in a remote area.

The Southeast Fire Centre has  Wildfire Service personnel monitoring the fire, and reports that, depending on local weather patterns, smoke from this fire will continue to be visible, but it is not a threat to the community.

At present this is the only fire of note in the Southeast District.
