Fire crews contain small grass fire near Baynes Lake

Firefighters in the South Country area contained a small grassfire south of Baynes Lake on Monday evening, according to Regional District of East Kootenay.

Firefighters in the South Country area contained a small grassfire south of Baynes Lake on Monday evening, according to Regional District of East Kootenay.

A guard has been established around the perimeter of the fire, and crews are back on site Tuesday to deal with any hot sports, with support from the BC Wildfire Service.

Members of the Baynes Lake, Elko and Jaffray Fire Departments responded to the scene Monday as the fire was estimated at three hectares in size just off Kikomun Road near the intersection of Baynes Lake Dump Road.

Fire response included 15 firefighters and 8 pieces of apparatus.

No homes or structures are threatened at this time.
