Firefighters respond to trailer fire near Tie Lake

Members of the Jaffray, Baynes Lake and Elko fire departments were called to a fire in a camping trailer on a forest service road near Tie Lake on Wednesday evening.

“The call came in at approximately 9:30pm and when we arrived, the recreational camping trailer was fully engulfed,” said Elk Valley & South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Michael Hockley. “Our firefighters did an excellent job of keeping the fire confined to the trailer and preventing it from spreading to the nearby forest. The recent rain and cooler temperatures also worked in our favour as this could easily have been a much more serious incident.”

11 firefighters from the three departments along with eight pieces of apparatus responded to the call.

The trailer is a total loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the RDEK says.
