The Regional District of East Kootenay has issued Evacuation Orders for two properties, as well as Evacuation Alerts for 67 properties in the Premier Lake area due to the Island Pond wildfire burning north of Skookumchuck in the East Kootenay.
The fire, which was discovered on Saturday, July 20, is burning as a highly vigorous surface fire, with torching and a fast rate of spread, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The RDEK has issued a State of Local Emergency for Electoral Area E and Electoral Area F, which is required when an Evacuation Order is issued.
