OTTAWA - The Canadian Press is projecting that the federal Liberals will win enough seats in the House of Commons to form a government.

It remains to be seen, however, whether they will reach the 170-seat threshold necessary to form a majority.

Under Canada's parliamentary system, if no party wins an outright majority, the governing party - the Conservatives, in this case - has the right to carry on even if another party actually has more seats.

The government would not fall until Prime Minister Stephen Harper concedes defeat or loses a confidence vote.
