Mount Baker Secondary School got some VIP treatment on Monday as Education Minister Mike Bernier and Kootenay East MLA toured the facilities ahead of a meeting with the school board.
School district trustees, along with Cranbrook Mayor Lee Pratt and Councillor Tom Shypitka, tagged along as everyone made stops in various school departments.
A student demonstrated a music editing program in the band room, while a pair of students showcased a partial scene from the upcoming theatrical production of Mary Poppins.
The tour then headed to The Gathering Place for aboriginal education, where Ktunaxa elders work with aboriginal and non-aboriginal students and spoke about the importance of having such a location in the school.
Stops were also made in the biology classroom where students were dissecting a fetal pig and also in the robotics classroom, where students that captured medals in the Skills B.C. competition showcased their robots completing objectives and building structures.
