The City of Cranbrook is encouraging residents to donate to the Trees & Benches program

Cranbrook, BC (October 26, 2015) – Many people have significant memories of important events or people in their lives who they feel they wish to commemorate in a special way.

That is where the City of Cranbrook’s Commemorative Trees & Benches program can help you honour those important people or events in a lasting way.

The donation of trees, street and park furniture provides a means for individuals, businesses or organizations to donate funds to the City specifically for commemorative trees, benches and tables in order to enhance parks and open spaces.

These donations are a wonderful way to commemorate a special person or a meaningful event such as a birth, wedding, anniversary, retirement, graduation or special achievement. Each donation includes a commemorative plaque.

Trees for Life has been successfully planting trees for nine years with 75 trees being planted throughout the City. Now is the time to consider your donations of trees or furniture for 2016.

Trees are generally planted twice per year and to make sure your tree is planted in 2016, potential donors do need to meet the City’s tree ordering deadline of April 15, 2016.

The City has just started its commemorative benches program with the first being installed recently at Idlewild Park. Other areas to be considered for trees or benches include: Rotary Trail, Moir Park and Rotary Park but consideration can be given to other areas in Cranbrook as well.
