The Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) has confirmed the identity of a woman, Anna Morigeau, found deceased in a newer model grey Ford F-150 in Cranbrook on July 2, 2023.
The Cranbrook RCMP’s initial investigation of a motor vehicle accident along Mission Wasa Low Road in the early morning hours of July 2, 2023 led to the discovery of Ms. Morigeau’s body in the driver seat of the vehicle, according to a press release from the RCMP.
Shortly after the discovery, a man was admitted into the East Kootenay Regional Hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening injury and believed to be in the same vehicle as Ms. Morigeau, but is being treated as a victim.
The Southeast District Major Crime has taken over the investigation as foul play is believed to be the cause of the accident resulting in Ms. Morigeau’s death. A man was later taken into custody by police, but released without criminal charges while the investigation continues.
RCMP say Ms. Morigeau’s cause of death will not be released at this point to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone who had contact with Ms. Morigeau on July 1, 2023 and into the early hours of July 2, 2023 or has information that may help in determining Ms. Morigeau’s activities to please contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit as soon as possible.
Since the discovery of Ms. Morigeau’s death, numerous Police Officers have been working to collect evidence related to this investigation, including members of the SED MCU, Forensic Identification Service members from Nelson, Cranbrook and Creston and Cranbrook GIS and General Duty members.
