Dates finalized for public consultation on Crown Mountain Coking Coal Project

NWP Coal Canada Ltd. and the government have released further details about public consultation on the Crown Mountain Coking Coal Project.

Kootenay residents will have a chance to weigh in on the proposed coal mine at a series of public events in February, held in-person at various locations throughout the region and online. Crown Mountain recently passed a new stage of review with the federal government and this period of public input is the next step in the approval process.

There will be two in-person meetings and one virtual meeting with government regulators, and three in-person consultations with NWP Coal Canada Ltd. People who are unable to attend the meetings will have the chance to submit comment online through EPIC B.C.

Details on each of the events are as follows:

Hosted by government regulators

Tues Feb. 13 in Cranbrook at Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort from noon to 3 p.m.

Wed Feb. 14 in Sparwood at Causeway Bay Hotel from 4 to 7 p.m.

Virtual meeting on Wed Feb. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m (MST). Participants must register on Zoom.

Hosted by NWP Coal Canada Ltd.

Sat Feb. 17 in Elkford at Elkford Community Conference Centre from 1 to 4 p.m.

Tues Feb. 20 in Crowsnest Pass at Crowsnest Pass Golf Course from 4 to 7 p.m.

Mon Feb. 26 in Fernie at the Senior Citizens Drop-in Center from 4 to 7 p.m.

Online comment

The public will also be able to provide comment on the mine online from Mon Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. to Wed Feb. 28 at midnight. To submit feedback, visit EPIC B.C at www.projects.eao.gov.bc.ca
