The City of Cranbrook has rescinded a boil water notice on Saturday, Jan. 18, two days after issuing it following some overnight repairs at the Phillips Reservoir.
"The City received approval from IHA to officially rescind the advisory on Saturday, January 18, 2025 after water sample tests confirmed there are no contamination issues," reads a press release issued by the city on the weekend.
Overnight Jan. 16, the city's chlorination system had a breakdown during repairs being made overnight at the Phillips Reservoir, and some water entered the water system that may be overchlorinated followed by some water that wasn’t treated properly.
Staff had the issue corrected within 20 minutes, however, the city issued the boil water notice out of an abundance of caution.
Looking forward, the City is undertaking additional measures to further protect and purify the City’s water supply, through a new UV Disinfection Facility treatment plant. The City has approved funding and investment for the plant, which is currently in the design stages.
Updated scheduling and timelines for the project are expected in late 2025.
