Arson charges laid after house fire

Gold Creek residence was completely destroyed early Monday morning, Nov. 18.

A 46-year-old male has been charged with Arson and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle after an incident on 41 Street South in Cranbrook on Nov 18.

A house in the Gold Creek area, just south of Cranbrook, was completely destroyed in an early morning fire, Monday, Nov. 18.

Cranbrook RCMP responded to a call just after 3 a.m. on Nov 18. A press release issued Wednesday said that upon their approach the house in question erupted in flames. A suspect was seen by police and arrested after a short search of the area. Involved in the investigation was Cranbrook General Investigation Sections, Forensic Identification, Police Dog Service and Fire investigators.

The scene examination is complete and it has been turned over to the insurance company for their investigation.

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services responded to the fire, but the house was fully engulfed upon their arrival and destroyed by the fire. The incident involving the motor vehicle took place the same date but prior to the fire.

The male has appeared before a Judicial Justice of the Peace and has been remanded in custody.

No names have been released as of press time.
