Advance byelection voting nets 875 ballots

The City of Cranbrook is reporting that 875 votes were cast in two days of advance polling in the upcoming municipal byelection.

The City of Cranbrook is reporting that 875 votes were cast in two days of advance polling in the upcoming municipal byelection.

The second and final day of advance voting saw 504 voters cast their ballots on Wednesday, while 371 cast ballots were cast last week during the first day of advance polling.

The byelection was called after former councillor Tom Shypitka resigned to focus on his duties as Kootenay East MLA following his election to the provincial legislature in May.

General voting is this Saturday October 21 from 8:00am to 8:00pm at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort.

Several special voting opportunities are set for Friday October 20 for eligible voters who are admitted patients at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital or residents of retirement and nursing home facilities at the following locations:

• Joseph Creek Village 9:00am – 2:00pm

• Scott Villa 9:15am – 9:45am

• Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home 10:00am – 11:45am

• East Kootenay Regional Hospital 1:00pm - 4:30pm

• Joseph Creek Care Village 2:00pm – 5:30pm

• Mountain View Village 5:00pm - 5:45pm

Follow the City’ website along with our Facebook and Twitter pages for results once the polls close at 8pm Saturday. Ballot counting will begin with both advance polls, mobile voting and then the general voting poll.
