The provincial government is dispersing funding for emergency operations centres.
EOCs act as the main hub where local leaders and representatives work together to coordinate plans and resources.
They help to protect communities during emergencies by providing crucial support to first responders and ensuring a unified and efficient response to crises.
The Province is providing approximately $1.4 million to 29 B.C. communities for emergency preparedness, including new supplies for local EOCs and training exercises to support staff and increase efficiency.
Included in the list of funding recipients is the community of Elkford which will receive $27,129 for emergency operations enhancements; and the Regional District of East Kootenay will receive $210,000 for EOC preparedness and modernization among its communities.
The Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF) is administered through the Union of B.C. Municipalities and funds projects that support First Nations and local governments to better prepare for disasters and reduce risks from hazards in a changing climate.
