Cranbrook residents were in attendance in large numbers for a heartfelt Remembrance Day ceremony at Rotary Park, Monday, Nov. 11, 2024.
The parade, led by the Colour Guard of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24 Cranbrook, entered the park at 10:40 a.m., and groups and dignitaries were in position at 10:45.
The Mount Baker Choir led by Evan Bueckert provided music for the solemn occasion. Derek Kortschaga and Steve Mercandelli served as Masters of Ceremonies; Legion Pastor Gordon Henry offered the Remembrance prayer, and spoke of the sacrifice of those who died in Canada's wars. Legion president Tammy Rickert gave the Act of Remembrance. Murray Knifpel played "The Last Post" on trumpet, Piper Dan McKinnon The Lament. Air Cadet Jonathan Talbot read a poem honouring the courage of the soldiers.
The event proceeded with the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph, by dignitaries, representatives of groups and organizations, and private citizens.
