Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation has raised $8,500 from its annual Jail and Bail fundraiser on Sept. 11.
Several people were arrested in Cranbrook and brought to a jail cell in Tamarack Mall, where they were tasked with raising their own bail money for charity. Police were tipped off by friends and coworkers, who made suggestions on who they would like to see behind bars.
12 people were arrested, raising bail ranging from $400 to $2,507, with proceeds going towards supporting young children in need of medical assistance.
Cranbrook Toyota detail manager Sean Mills was among the lucky individuals to be arrested. It was a regular day for Mills, until the police showed up at his work and transported him to Tamarack Mall in an undercover cruiser. He managed to raised around $800 in bail money for Cops for Kids.
It was his first time participating in the challenge, an experience that he said was a positive one.
"I think anyone who can remember being a kid knows how important it is to be in a position to be able to help," he said.
The Jail and Bail coincided with the Cops for Kids Ride, which wound its way through Cranbrook in September. 30 law enforcement officers biked across Southeastern B.C, each raising a minimum of $2,500 for cause.
