Cranbrook Community Theatre is putting its own unique spin on a timeless holiday classic this Christmas.
A Christmas Carol will show at Studio Stage Door Nov. 28 to 30 and Dec. 5 to 7, starring accomplished performer Michael Grossman as Scrooge and welcoming Audrey Branchaud to the stage as Tiny Tim.
Adapted by Trevor Lundy, CCT gives this festive favourite a twist by turning the play into a staged reading from a few special guests.
"A staged reading means the actors will have their scripts in hand, but because we always like to take things up a level at CCT, the audience can expect a full theatrical show,” said Lundy. “What makes this production exciting is that each performance will feature a special guest star reading the roles of Jacob Marley, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, and Boy with the Goose.”
Guest stars include Huckleberry Books purveyor Erin Dalton on Nov. 28, Cranbrook city councillor Lynnette Wray on Nov. 29, Kimberley mayor Don McCormick on Dec. 5, Key City Theatre executive director Galen Olstead on Dec. 6, and retired Crabrook Chamber of Commerce manager and 2017 Cranbrook Citizen of the Year Karin Penner on Dec. 7. The guest for Nov. 30 has yet to be announced.
In keeping with the spirit of giving, CCT will donate $5 from each ticket sold to a charity chosen by the guest star at each performance. Tickets for this special event are $30 and go on sale Monday, Oct. 21.
“Dickens' holiday classic, at its heart, is about the spirit of giving, so CCT felt it only fitting to give back to the community that has supported us over our past sixty years,” said Lundy.
CCT's seasonal sponsor is Paugh, Carlson and Associates Wealth Management, and its show sponsors are Cranbrook Toyota and Huckleberry Books. Additional funding support has come from the Rick and Marg Jensen Family Foundation, the City of Cranbrook and the Province of British Columbia Community Gaming Program.
