Area restriction around Mt. Morro fire amended but still in place

While the Southeast Fire Centre has rescinded the evacuation order in the Whiteswan lake area, the area restrictions are still in place, although amended.

The Mt. Morro fire (N21014) is burning about 43 km northeast of Kimberley in Top of the World park. The area restriction is being reduced in size but not eliminated, the SE Fire Centre said in an information bulletin.

Beginning August 7 at noon the restricted area is as follows:

 

  • Commencing at Mt Morro Peak @ [49° 50.126', -115° 21.276'],
  • Following height of land North to Unnamed Peak South of White Swan Lake Park @ [50° 6.707', -115° 28.106'],
  • Continuing West downslope to the junction of White-Swan FSR and White-Lussier FSR @ [50° 7.177', -115° 32.903'],
  • Continuing Southwest upslope to Unnamed Peak (2000m) @ [50° 6.566', -115° 35.149'],
  • Following height of land South tying into White Ram FSR @ [50° 1.104', -115° 33.702'],
  • Continuing South upslope and then along height of land to Unnamed Peak @ [49° 49.281', -115° 32.777'],
  • Heading East to Mt Dingley Peak @ [49° 49.257', -115° 26.378'],
  • Following height of land Northeast to Mt Morro Peak @ [49° 50.126', -115° 21.276'].

 

Travel along the Whiteswan Forest Service Road is permitted.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person:
Enters the area only in the course of:

  • Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under evacuation an order;
  • Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purpose of accessing his or her secondary residence or recreational property, that is not under an evacuation order;
  • Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
  • Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act;
  • Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.

 

Failure to comply could result in a $1150 fine. Area restrictions are put in place to protect the public during wildfire suppression efforts.
