Brass Roots to present Jazz in Cinema at Centre 64

Brass Roots, a 12-piece ensemble from Kimberley and Cranbrook, will present their second-annual concert at Centre 64 on November 16.

Brass Roots, a 12-person musical ensemble with members from Kimberley and Cranbrook, are gearing up for their second-annual show, with this year's event, entitled Jazz in Cinema: A Night of Timeless Movie Music, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Centre 64. 

According to the group's newsletter, Jazz in Cinema will celebrate some of the most iconic film scores ever written.

"Join us for an unforgettable evening where classic movie themes come to life through dynamic live performances, blending piano, vocals and lush instrumental arrangements," the said.

"From dramatic fanfares to playful tunes, this concert offers a journey through decades of cinematic music. Whether you’re a fan of spy thrillers, romantic ballads, or feel-good hits, there will be something for everyone. You’ll hear unforgettable melodies from beloved films, re-imagined for the stage in fresh and creative ways." 

Brass Roots first came together in 2021 and are now in their third season. Trumpet player Shinobu Murata told the Bulletin that their mission is "to bring a variety of styles of music to our community."

"Last year we had a concert, Roots of Jazz, and it was a huge success," she added. "We are very excited to present our latest show, Jazz in Cinema."
