EKMTA hosts recital for music students prepping for practical exams

By Cara Webb

On Sunday May 28, the East Kootenay Music Teachers’ Association (EKMTA) hosted a recital for music students preparing for their Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) practical exams.

After three years of examinations being conducted remotely (online) due to Covid-19, the RCM is now offering in-person examinations once again.

Practice performing is an integral part of preparing for these comprehensive exams and the EKMTA was happy to support and encourage our local youth with their musical goals. Each performer shared two to three selections from their exam repertoire, ranging from level 1 to 9, which made for a most enjoyable recital!

The EKMTA promotes and supports activities throughout the year including Canada Music Week recitals, jazz/contemporary and ensemble recitals, the East Kootenay Performing Arts Festival, prepares local students to perform foyer music with the Symphony of the Kootenays, organizes and hosts touring artist concerts and masterclasses, and offers student and teacher training workshops.
