The Canadian Cancer Society is hosting its first annual Daffodil Dash on April 29 at McKinnon Park in Cranbrook.

Residents of Cranbrook and Kimberley are invited to lace up their runners and get moving for this family-friendly 5/10 km walk/run that raises funds for life-saving cancer research and support services for people living with cancer and their families. There is something a little extra special about this Daffodil Dash, all the funds raised will be designated to breast cancer.

With Canada's aging population expected to drive a 40 per cent increase in cancer cases by 2030, running enthusiasts can help us meet the rising demand for our services and continued investment in research.

"This year, the lives of over 200,000 Canadians and their families will change when they hear the words 'you have cancer,'" says Jenn Smith, Annual Giving Coordinator. "Funds raised through Daffodil Dash support research and support services for cancer patients and their families right here in Cranbrook and Kimberley."

Cranbrook's Dash is celebrating a new chapter for the Society! On February 1, 2017, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) joined forces to increase operational efficiencies and further impact on all types of cancer for all Canadians. This unprecedented merger allows the new Canadian Cancer Society to accelerate the impact of donor dollars on cancer research and vital support services for people living with and affected by cancer.

With the help and support of the Curves Cranbrook Club and the Abreast in the Rockies Dragon Boat Team, this new event is a great way to "sock" it to breast cancer. Fundraising $150 will get you a pair of the most popular socks around. Test driven by Sandy Zeznik, who says "not only are they fashionable but they are also a great place to keep your phone when you don't have pockets."

Everyone is invited to take part in the Daffodil Dash. Help us celebrate the merger, enjoy a walk or run with family and friends and join the fight against breast cancer. "We are honored to be part of this cause that can help the women of Cranbrook lead healthier lives," adds Kim Roelofs, Curves Manager.

Register now online, cancer.ca/DaffodilDash, at Curves or the Canadian Cancer Society office. Daffodil Dash will kick off at 11:00 am at McKinnon Park. Participants are welcomed to sign up as a team or run/walk solo and are encouraged to dress in pink to show support for the fight against breast cancer.

On April 29, put on your running shoes and support a great cause!
