Cranbrook's first organic grocery store is up and open.

From The Ground Up, at 1227 Cranbrook Street North (by the bus station and Allegra Restaurant) opened its doors to customers on Monday, March 4, and is getting ready for an official grand opening on Friday, March 15.

From The Ground Up is a business operated by the mother-daughter partnership of Leanna Spring and Devon Rae.

"It came to both Devon and I, when our kids were little, we found out about allergies," Leanna said. She said they both ended up exploring the importance of nutrition in regards to allergies and over-all health.

"We eventually both started on down the path, taking holistic nutrition courses, and going totally organic in our own lives," Leanna said.

"That's when we came up with the idea for our own store — about three years ago. Then last year, we decided we were definitely going to do it."

From The Ground Up is intended as a one-stop grocery shopping experience, offering organic produce, meats, snacks, canned goods, and many other items. Leanna and Devon are also bringing in organic and gluten-free baked goods. As well, the store will offer deli-style take-out lunches of soup and salad and baked items.

The grand opening of From The Ground Up is set for Friday, March 15.
