Are you a collector, or interested in different types of collections? Do you enjoy the “Spirit of Christmas?”

Two ladies in the community of Cranbrook are serious collectors of Nativity scenes. They have scenes of Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus that are so small they fit in a sea shell. They have life-size scenes that display in the front yard throughout the Christmas season. They have scenes from the Holy Land, Central and South America, and many European countries. Some of their scenes are crafted in a coconut shell, a poppy husk, and a corn cob.

Together these individuals have a collection of over 500 nativity scenes that they would love to share with this community. Therefore, they have made arrangements to create a weekend-long Nativities Gallery for your interest and viewing pleasure.

Spirit of Christmas – Nativities Gallery will be presented in Centennial Hall 46 – 13th Ave, Cranbrook, BC on the first weekend of Advent, December 1, 2, and 3. Posters around town will indicate times for public viewing: Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Special viewing times are being offered for seniors or others with mobility challenges. These times will include morning or afternoon beverage and Christmas treat.

This is entirely a free event for our community; however, if you are a senior or individual with mobility restrictions wishing to attend during the specially arranged times, please contact Kathy at 250-919-4351 or Kim at 250-421-1795 to reserve your free ticket for your preferred viewing time: Thursday 1 to 3 p.m. or Friday 10 to 11:30 or 1 to 3 p.m. These viewing times are most appropriate for individuals with wheelchairs or walkers as sufficient space will be available to traverse the gallery with ease.

The public viewing times are drop-in times, so tickets are not needed to attend between 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday or from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. We will monitor attendance to ensure there is no overcrowding in the hall. Hot spiced apple juice will be available as long as supply lasts.

We look forward to meeting you and to sharing our special collections on this first weekend of Advent 2023.
