FOR THE TOWNSMAN
It was another busy weekend on the road for athletes at Mount Baker Secondary School. Several teams were in action on Friday and Saturday across the region and they all had success.
The Senior boys soccer team shone the brightest, winning Creston’s ‘Brawl in the Fall’ tournament with a tie and three impressive wins.
The Wild began the weekend with a 3-3 tie against Kimberley’s Selkirk Secondary, then beat Trail’s J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary 7-1. In the semi-finals, Mount Baker defeated Nakusp Secondary 4-0 and earned a rematch against Selkirk in the finals, defeating their crosstown rivals 5-0 for the championship trophy.
The Junior girls volleyball team, meanwhile, was in Sparwood and despite being shorthanded a couple of players, had three good games in their pool before losing to Jaffray in the crossover and placing fourth overall.
The Senior girls and boys volleyball teams were in Calgary, where the girls went 3-3 and the boys went 4-2. Both teams made it into the semi-finals with the girls finishing in fourth-place and the boys placing second overall.
