Cranbrook Outlaws host home tournament this weekend

The Cranbrook Outlaws Box Lacrosse Association will be hosting the “Kootenay Shootout” tournament this weekend for Tyke, Novice, PeeWee, Bantam, and Midget teams.

Kicking off on the evening of Friday, May 12, the event will run for three days with games being held at the Memorial Arena, the Kinsmen Arena, and Western Financial Place.

Opponents from across Alberta and BC will be in town for the event with clubs from Castlegar, Rocky View, North Okanagan, Blackfald, Medicine Hat, Calgary, and Shuswap all making the trip to the Key City.

The event will be open to the public and a raffle table will be set up at Memorial Arena with a 50/50 draw also taking place, along with a concession with food and drinks.

The Outlaws make up two of the four teams participating in the Tyke tournament and all of their games will take place at the Kinsmen Arena. The first Cranbrook match will go at 5 p.m. on Friday night, and there will then be games on Saturday at 11 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. The finals will be on Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m.

Cranbrook also has two teams playing in a four-squad Novice group. Their games will all be at the Kinsmen Arena as well, opening at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and then continuing at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The final will take place after the Tyke games on Sunday.

In the PeeWee tournament, there will only be one Outlaws team in a four-team competition. Their games will be held at the Memorial Arena with the first being at 5 p.m. on Friday and continuing on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Semi-finals will then be played at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and the finals will be at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The Bantam showdown is the largest group of the weekend, with seven teams vying for gold. The Outlaws will kick off their run with a 7 p.m. game at Western Financial Place on Friday and then play at 9 a.m. at the Memorial, 3 p.m at WFP and 6 p.m. back at Memorial. The Bantam finals will be held at 11 a.m at the Memorial Arena.

The Midget tournament will feature one Cranbrook team in a four-squad group. They will play at Western Financial Place at 8 p.m. on Friday, and then 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday. The semi-finals and finals will be held on Sunday at Memorial and WFP.
