The Cranbrook Bandits ‘A’ team kicked off their home 2017 Wood Bat Invitational tournament with an entertaining win against the Calgary Jr. Dinos on Friday afternoon.

In their first ever meeting, both teams grabbed a pair of early runs, making it a 2-2 after three innings. The offense didn’t explode, however, until the fifth inning when the Dinos put up four runs.

The Bandits didn’t quit though and managed five of their own runs in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 7-6 game in their favour.

Cranbrook held onto that lead the rest of the way and won the first round robin game of the three-day tournament 10-6.

Dan Mercandelli picked up the win after pitching the first six innings, aided by Carson Meggison’s seventh inning close performance.

The ‘A’ team’s next game is at 10:30 a.m at Confederation Park on Saturday, May 27, against the Lethbridge Miners ‘B’ team. The Cranbrook Bandits ‘B’ team play their first game of the tournament tonight at 6:00 p.m.
