Alvin Dunic, a Nelson man who teaches at Crawford Bay School, is still missing.

A RCMP news release issued Wednesday states: “Search efforts are continuing today, with SAR conducting ground and river’s edge searches. We have a large number of trained resources conducting the search at this time and we ask that the general public stay away from the search area.”

Facebook posts show a community meeting was held on Tuesday at the Crawford Bay school to update parents, students and staff about the search.

Dunic left the school before noon on Monday to look for a suitable location for a class project, and was expected to return half an hour later — but didn’t.

Police were alerted at 2:45 p.m., and co-workers found his unlocked vehicle on Woolgar Rd. at the Crawford Creek trail head.

Dunic is described as being 5’10, balding, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a light coloured short sleeve shirt, khaki shorts and loafers.

Search and rescue crews have been searching with a helicopter, ground crews and search dogs. The RCMP have requested that people stay out of the search area because they don’t want to contaminate possible tracks or evidence.
