A fire early Friday morning, May 5, has destroyed two homes, a shed and truck.

The Kimberley RCMP were notified of the fire on Aspen Road Wasa just after 7:00 am. The police attended to confirm the safety of occupants and nearby residents. It’s believed one person may have suffered smoke inhalation but there was no other injuries reported.

The quick action by local residents likely prevented the fire from spreading. There is no fire protection service in Wasa but BC Wildfire was notified and attended in the event it spread into the forest.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but there will be further follow up once the scene can be safely examined.
