To coincide with the celebration of Earth Day, the Cities of Cranbrook and Kimberley are collaborating with Mountain Phoenix Community Culture and Wildsight Kimberley-Cranbrook with their annual Co-Community Cleanup event.

According to the City of Kimberley this initiative is “designed to bring together residents, businesses, schools and organizations in a collective effort to revitalize our neighbourhoods and green spaces.”

These are inclusive events that welcome individuals, families or organizations to get outside and connect with one another while cleaning up the litter that accumulated in the community over the winter.

“They also promote team building, physical activity, responsibility, cooperation, a deeper connection with nature, and a sense of pride in our shared achievement of enhancing our environment,” the City said in a release.

There are three different ways you can get involved.

In Kimberley, from April 15-19, individuals, businesses, friends and family, school or community groups can get assigned an area of the city to clean up. Get in touch with Pam Wash at the City of Kimberley to get your bags and your designated route at pwalsh@kimberley.ca or 250-427-9653.

The Springtime Spruce Up Cranbrook Campaign also runs from April 15 to 19 and invites schools, residents, businesses and community groups to participate. Contact corinna.hrehirchuk@cranbrook.ca or 250-489-0220 to receive your bags and get your route.

The main events are Saturday, Apr. 20 at 10 a.m., in both Kimberley and Cranbrook. Kimberley’s event begins at Centennial Hall and Cranbrook’s at Western Financial Place. Gloves and vests will be on hand, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have them, as well as water and snacks.

Lots of great prizes will be handed out, so get out there and help make your community cleaner and healthier.
