Voters can cast their ballot in advance of Nov. 26 byelection

With the Victoria federal byelection fast approaching on Nov. 26, there are several ways to avoid election day lineups and vote in advance.

Between now and Nov. 20, you can vote at the local Elections Canada office, located at Richmond elementary, 2780 Richmond Rd. The office is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Advance voting takes place on Nov. 16, 17 and 19 between noon and 8 p.m. at several locations, found on your voter information card or at elections.ca.

You can identify yourself in one of the following ways:

– By showing government-issued picture I.D. that must include your address, such as a driver's licence. Note that passports do not include printed address information, and cannot be used as a sole piece of I.D.

– By showing two official documents that, when combined, show your name and address, such as a health card and a utility bill. Combine bank statements, credit cards, library cards, vehicle insurance and any government-issued documents, so long as one has your address, and the other has your full name.

– By having a registered voter vouch for you. The person must know you and will have to sign a sworn statement to verify this.

If you're not registered to vote, you can sign up on election day or at the Elections Canada office. For a full list of acceptable I.D. and advance voting locations, visit elections.ca or call 1-800-463-6868.
